Computer Vision Syndrome

If you experience strained eyes, fatigue or pain in your eyes as a result of continuous and prolonged exposure to digital screens like desktop, laptop, tablet, smartphone, etc., then it's time to get your eyes examined as most of these symptoms are a result of digital eye strain or Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS).

Common Symptoms

As mentioned, CVS is commonly experienced by individuals who use or are dependent on digital devices a tad too much. The condition may cause symptoms such as eye discomfort, headache, dry eye, pain in back/neck, and vision problems like blurred or double vision, etc. The discomfort and symptoms often increase with excessive use of these digital devices, therefore, its advisable to limit overusing them and protect your eyes from the harmful blue light exposure.

Treatment

In this technology driven world our lives are totally dependent on our digital companions and eyes constantly glued to the 6-inches screen of our smartphone. While practicing digital detox may not be easy, it's easier to consider and encourage good eye health. Therefore, Africa Eye Laser Centre recommends regular check up of your eyes to detect and cure vision problems. We provide excellent eye care facilities and counselling services for Computer Vision Syndrome treatment in Nigeria. Our team of experienced eye specialists use world-class technology and modern equipments to look after your eye care needs. However, CVS in most cases is easily managed by taking necessary precautions and making some lifestyle changes.

Tips to Avoid CVS

  • Wear prescribed glasses while using a digital device.
  • Do not wear contact lens for prolonged hours. It may cause eye infection and irritation.
  • Blink often and adhere to 20-20-20 rule while working on any kind of digital device. Make sure after an interval of 20 minutes you look away from the screen at an object which is about 20 feet away for about 20 seconds. This will relieve you of strained eyes and CVS symptoms.
  • Refrain from watching movies or playing games on a mobile or a tablet.
  • Use lubricating eye drops to prevent irritation, dryness or redness in eyes.
  • Maintain a good posture while working on computer.
  • Take special care of the lighting conditions in a room. Make sure your eyes do not get strained.
